The history of the Kalamazoo County Jail system can be traced back to the early days of the county's establishment. In 1991, the Kalamazoo County Jail moved into its current facility, located at 203 W Kalamazoo Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. The new jail was designed to address the shortcomings of the previous facility. It was built with state-of-the-art security systems, modern cell blocks, and ample space for inmates to participate in various programs and services aimed at rehabilitation and reintegration. The jail also features separate areas for male and female inmates, as well as specialized units for inmates with mental health or medical needs.
